After winning the champion in SC16 SCC, China's University of Science and Technology (USTC) "SwanGeese" team embarks on a new journey with deep passion and confidence to the SC conference Student Cluster Competition this year.
- What is the name of your team and why did you choose it?
In traditional Chinese culture, litterateurs pushed the image of Swan Goose into greatness with an instance of teamwork, perseverance and bravery. Since these spirits perfectly interpret the characteristics of the team, and the team expects to soar like swan geese, their decision to choose SwanGeese as the team name was an easy one.
- Why do you think your team will have an edge in the event (what's your secret sauce)?
Patience and Diligence, like faith, moves mountains. If we really have what we call secret sauce, I think it's hard work. We believe the success is not attained by chance, it must be sought for diligence and perseverance, and we work hard on the optimizing applications. During the competition, everyone will witness the power of our secret sauce.
- What have you done to prepare that makes your team unique?
In addition to HPC, SCC17's applications have other science backgrounds, such as seismology, biology, etc. Learning relevant knowledge was essential to our work, which would give us inspiration. With the help of experienced scientists, the members of the team were able to familiarize themselves with fields that they had little knowledge of before.
- What are you most looking forward to in the competition?
For most of the members, this is their first time for them participating in a global conference and they are looking forward to the exciting atmosphere of SCC and SC. As they all have a strong interest in the HPC field, they consider it as a great chance to broaden their horizons and communicate with other attendees.
- What do your team members do for fun?
Apart from developing apps, our team members also have other amazing activities. Here is a quick look of their interest:
Chaoyi Ruan: Watching movies and TV shows from other countries.
Huanqi Cao: Playing BUGGY Ub***ft game with obsession on winning.
YIming Zhu: Loving playing guitar in a band.
Qiang Li: Playing badminton and luring friends into playing poker game in his dormitory.
Li Zhong: A cat person, loving playing with cats.
Ruobing Wang: Accompanying girlfriend.
- How long will it take you to get to Denver?
